My name is Khushi. When I was a young girl, my mother made me beg on the streets. She would beat me if I didn’t bring back enough money. My stepfather also abused me physically. I ran away from home. Eventually, an old man gave me shelter. I married him at a very young age. My husband died when I was only 17 years old and my daughter was 5 months. My in-laws didn’t behave well with me. I was on my own, desperate, with a baby to feed. One staff from Children’s Uplift Program (CUP) invited me to their training programme. They gave me training in hand stitching and many things. Now I am working at Basha Enterprises in their textile department. My life has changed. I am very happy to be here. I have married again. My husband takes a good care of me. I am thankful to God that I got a job here at Basha. I am earning money through a dignified work. I want to devote myself to this work. I also want to give a safe future to my daughter.
