It’s spring in Bangladesh!

Bangladesh winters are cool, which is a welcome break from the steamy hot weather the rest of the year. But they are also dry. By the end of February, it feels like you are walking through a world of dust. But then you suddenly notice something. Trees that look absolutely dead develop buds, that turn into flaming flowers. Every year it amazes me that such vibrancy can suddenly bloom from something that looks so dead.

Celebrating transformation

This spring we also had the opportunity to visit all the training programs of our affiliate Friends of Basha. These are women who have received a diverse curriculum to help them get on their feet. Women who have escaped human trafficking or been vulnerable to it are selected for this program but they share other things in common to. They often lack family support. They often were married as children. They typically had little to no formal education.  As they dress in bright sari’s, dance and sing to celebrate that they have completed the program, they also share what they have learned. Basic literacy, budgeting. resolving conflict, parenting their children. And most importantly, experience warmth and acceptance. Shown that they deserve a place at the table. That they are of value and should not be discarded.
